Hi, my name is Erin.
I’m 37 years old. I am married, not yet lucky enough to have children, but my two dogs, Spy and Oakley fill that position just fine. I have a full-time job, and my husband owns a lawn care company. For the past 10 years in my spare time I’ve been slowly working on becoming a professional photographer, but have always felt uncomfortable using that title on myself! Why? Well, I didn’t go to a fancy school, I don’t have any awards on my shelves, and I certainly know I still have a lot to learn (because there is always something new to learn!). But I am creative, I do know my camera, and I do, and love to make people happy, and look GOOD in photographs!
I’ve been taking pictures since about 3rd grade, with this funny little film camera my parents bought me. I didn’t realize it at the time, but when I look back at how upset I got when my brother tossed it down the stairs and broke it, I really should have realized this passion a little earlier in life!! I finally figured out that this is what I want to be doing in about 2004. It’s never too late to do what you love! So I practiced a lot, read a lot, failed a lot, read some more, cried a bit, attended seminars, excelled in so much, and never gave up. Then one day, it just happened, I didn’t get nervous for a whole hour before a shoot anymore, I actually couldn’t wait to get there! I knew I was going to take some rockin’ pictures, and now here I am with a new goal of making this full time.
I don’t like it when people refer to any professional work as “pics”. These aren’t just ‘pics’ to me. A ‘photograph’ is a memory. A ‘portrait’ is a time capsule. An ‘image’ is something to be cherished. I love that I have the ability to preserve all those things for people who trust me to do so. Knowing that 5, 10, 15 years from now one of those funny, romantic, crazy, goofy moments I preserved on paper, or on a disk for you, will bring smiles to anyone who sees it, really makes me happy.
So if you have the time, swing by my website, or go hang out on my facebook page, I’d super appreciate your support with a “like”for Empixx, and even a share! (to help get me out of the full time job I have now, and get me where I belong!) All the info is at the bottom of this post.
Thanks for reading my first blog post. I hope I get better at it!
